Gerda Schmitt

Gerda M. Schmitt, 76, of Neche, ND died Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Center, Osnabrock, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, March 27, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the Saints Nereus and Achilleus Catholic Church, Neche, ND. A rosary will be said at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the church. Burial in the Sts. Nereus and Achilleus Cemetery. Arrangements with Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND.
Gerda Margaret Schmitt was born June 15, 1932 in Bohn, Germany to Dr. Gerhard A. and Elisabeth M. (Lovins) Schmitt. At the age of 21, she came to the United States and worked as a bookkeeper at Kedney's Warehouse in Grand Forks. She later became a house keeper for Father Patrick Duffy for over 40 years at Neche. They also enjoyed summers at the cabin at Lake of the Woods and also enjoyed ice fishing there. Gerda owned and operated the Neche Greenhouse for several years. In March of 2004, she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center.
She is survived by her sister, Helma V. Neree, Hamburg, Germany, one nephew, and three nieces.
Preceding her in death were her parents.
