Gerda Iverson, 89, of Langdon passed away January 20, 2008 at the Maple Manor Care Center where she had been a resident since April of 2006.
Gerda Adeline Rollness was born May 14, 1918 at Langdon, ND to Simon and Minnie (Thorpe) Rollness. She grew up in the Homen area of Hope Township where she attended country school. Before her marriage she worked for many area families in their homes. Gerda was united in marriage to Bert Ingvald Iverson on October 23, 1951 at Rev. Bilstadââ¬â¢s parsonage in Langdon, ND. After their marriage, they made their home on the family farm. Gerda was the third generation to make her home there and they shared the farmyard with her parents. After her fatherââ¬â¢s death, Gerda cared for her young daughter and her mother in a three generation home. Gerda was well known as the ââ¬ï¿½lefse ladyââ¬â¢ for many years. She made lefse for the grocery stores in Langdon along with other Norwegian specialties for many individuals and businesses. She was an avid cook and baker, often baking more for others than herself and she loved her flowers and gardening in the summer. Gerda truly cared for the people of her community, and went out of her way to show her care and concern for them. She helped many in the community who were sick or had other needs and was never too busy too lend a hand to someone in need. She was an active member of the Big Pembina Lutheran Church up until a few years ago when her health began to fail. A trip to the Holy Land with her church family and friends was a particular highlight for her. She was very involved in the churchââ¬â¢s cemeteries, making sure the cemeteries were in good condition and she worked hard to establish funds to care for the cemeteries after she was gone. Gerda was also the Homen News reporter for the Cavalier County Republican for many years.
Gerda is survived by her daughter Gloria Grove (Nick Brossart, Jr.) of Rugby, ND, special friends Terry (Connie) Grove and Family, Bob Tapson, Shannon Dursma and family, Sig and Ione Grove and family, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bert, son-in-law Lawrence (Lornie) Grove, an infant sister Gerda and an infant brother.
