Geraldine Waltz, 88, of Langdon, ND, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2019, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Geraldine Metzger was born August 18, 1931, in Mt. Carmel Township to Severius and Lucy (Perius) Metzger. She grew up and attended school in the Wales area. On June 11, 1952, Gerry married Thomas Waltz at St. Alphonsus Church in Langdon. They made their home and raised their children on the Waltz family farm in Manilla Township. In 1990, they moved to Langdon.
Geraldine was very involved in St. Alphonsus Catholic Church as a 1st grade CCD teacher for many years, a member of Catholic Daughters, and a member of Altar Society. She also loved doing adoration and watching EWTN. She was an active member of Homemakers in her younger years. She made quilts for every child and anyone who wanted one, macramed personal designs on lawn chairs for her family and friends, enjoyed gardening, canning, playing cards, traveling, camping, needlepoint, painting and almost any kind of craft. She was an excellent cook, especially rice rolls and perogies, which she passed down to the next generation. She also liked raising chickens when her children were younger.
Surviving Geraldine are her children: Mary Jane (Jim) Foley of Fargo, ND, Rodney (Susan) Waltz of Deer Park, WA, Roger (Colleen) Waltz of Langdon, and Loralyn (Wayne) Maixner of Lakota, ND; grandchildren: Donald (Stephanie) Waltz, Stephanie (Wade) Haugland, Daniel Waltz, Chris Maixner (Jayme), and David Maixner ; great-grandchildren: Kyleigh, Xavier, and Isla; siblings: Sr. Petronilla Metzger, Marilyn (Art) Gapp, & Josie (Ken) Bittner; sisters-in-law: Ruth Metzger, Mary Ann Metzger, Alice Metzger and Lorraine Metzger; and many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Tom, and brothers: Syl (Madeline), Nestor (Helen), Emeric (Pat), Roy, Maurice, Arnold and Ray.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2019, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Langdon, ND. Visitation will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 12:30 p.m. prior to the funeral mass at the church on Saturday. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Langdon, ND.
