George Shambaugh was born February 21, 1922, at home to Charles and Agnes (Holwell) Shambaugh near Leyden, ND. He grew up and attended school in Leyden and later worked for Civilian Conservation Corps until his enlistment in the United States Army. He served in WWII in the European and Pacific Theaters from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1946. Upon his return he lived in Port Townsend, WA, for several years before returning to Cavalier, where he worked various jobs and enjoyed hunting in his free time.
Surviving George are his sisters: Beth Olafson, Mountain, ND; Faye (Lester) Williams, Grafton, WI; Margaret Thom, Cedarburg, WI; brothers: Dallas (Betty) Shambaugh, Cavalier, ND; Don Shambaugh, Grafton, ND; Charles (Jane) Shambaugh, Fargo, ND, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Lorena Thom; brothers: Dean, Keith, Richard, and Scott Shambaugh.
George M. Shambaugh, 89, of Cavalier, ND, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2011, at Wedgewood Manor Nursing Home, Cavalier, ND. Funeral Service will be held Monday, September 26, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home. Burial in the Cavalier Cemetery.
