Gene Christie, 76, longtime Langdon resident and business owner, passed away May 27, 2006, at his summer home in Tobin Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada.
Ernest Gene Christie was born January 27, 1930, to Ernest and Edith (Thody) Christie in the Wales/Sarles, ND area. He graduated from Langdon High School and went on to attend the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. He entered the United States Air Force on December 31, 1948 and was stationed in Florida. He was honorably discharged September 16, 1952. He returned to the Langdon area and was united in marriage to Carol Blair Starratt November 26, 1955 in Kenora, Ontario. They made their home in Langdon where Gene owned and operated Christie Motor Sales. He also served as the area distributor of Morridge grain dryers. Gene served as a member and as chief of the Langdon Volunteer Fire Department. He was involved in the Masonic Lodge, and was a member of the Langdon Gun club, as well as a supporter of the Langdon United Methodist Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed collecting antique cars and guns, After his retirement he spent winters in Yuma, AZ and summers in Tobin Lake, Sask.
He is survived by daughters Dawn (Thomas) Beckley of Muscatine, Iowa and Catherine Christie of Walnut Creek, California, son Blair (Emily) Christie of West Chester, PA, sister Mary Benedict of New Berlin, Ill, and special friend Mardell Crewe and her daughter Terri. Gene is also survived by several of his cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, one sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Phillip Hain, and several aunts and uncles.
VISITATION will begin at 5:30pm with a 7:30pm prayer service at the Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon, ND.
SERVICES will be on Saturday June 3, 2006 at 4:00pm at the United Methodist Church of Langdon, ND.
INTERMENT to follow services at the Lebanon Cemetery, Langdon, ND
