Gena N. Seim

Gena Seim, 95, of rural Milton, ND passed away on Monday, March 19, 2012 at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital of Cavalier, ND.

Georgina Neilia Florence was born August 31, 1916, to George and Netta (Thompson) Florence in Montrose Township, Cavalier County. Gena and Johnny O. Seim were united in marriage on November 24, 1938. In 1939 Johnny and Gena purchased a farm in Section 13, Montrose Township, and Johnny began work with the Cavalier County Highway Department. For ten years they made their home in a log house north of Union, ND. Gena tended a small herd of milk cows and picked potatoes in the fall. In 1949, Johnny and Gena sold their farm and purchased a farm in Section 32, Montrose Township, the former Peter Flom farm owned by Joel Flom. They purchased construction equipment and operated their own business.

In 1958, the Seims moved from their farm in Section 32, Montrose Township, and they purchased another farm in Section 15, Montrose Township, when Howard Florence retired from farming. This land was homesteaded by Gena’s grandparents, Ole and Martha Florence, on their arrival from Norway in the 1880’s. The George and Nettie Florence family lived and farmed their entire lifetime on the parent’s homestead. Since then, this farm has been owned and operated by their descendants. Gena and her family have resided at their farm in Section 15, Montrose Township, two miles northwest of Union, ND. The farm home was built in 1916 by Gena’s parents, George and Nettie Florence.

Four children were born to Johnny and Gena, two daughters and two sons. Gena is survived by her children: Nancy Seim of Edinburg, ND, Mitzi (Gary) Flatau of Frazee, MN, Larry Seim of Milton, ND, Jerry Seim of Milton, ND and grandchildren: Aaron (Lindy) Flatau and their children Gabriel and Andrew of Humbolt, Iowa, Michael (Laura) Flatau and their son Thomas of Frazee, MN, Jill (Craig) Walter and their children Bauer and Rhett of Milwaukee, WI, Emily Flatau of Alaska, Daniel (Holly) Flatau of Fargo, ND, and Jonathan (Heidi) Flatau of Perham, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Johnny, siblings Margaret (Orlin) Nelson, Herbert (Tina) Florence, Gerald and Howard (Nora) Florence.PRAYER SERVICE : Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 7pm at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Edinburg, ND with visitation for one hour before the prayer service at the church.

SERVICES: Friday, March 23, 2012 at 11:00am at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Edinburg, ND with visitation for one hour before the time of the services at the church.

INTERMENT: Zion Cemetery, Union, ND.
