Frank A. Slama, 88, passed away August 15, 2007 at the Maple Manor Care Center of Langdon, ND where he had been a resident since July.
Frank was born November 14, 1918 to James and Clara (Spivak) Slama in Cavalier County, ND. He attended school in Osford Township. Frank was united in marriage to Myrtle Hjelmstad on July 9, 1949 in Milton, ND where they made their home. Frank and Myrtle spent the winter of 1949-50 in California and there is where thay started square dancing and round dancing. They helped start the Promenaders Square Dance Club at Milton and clubs in several neighboring towns. He was a caller for many years and was a director of the State Caller's Association. They attended many state, national, and international conventions. Susan & Tim both enjoyed dancing with their parents. Frank also loved to take his family on camping trips to Canada every summer in the 60's & 70's. Myrtle passed away on January 15, 1979 and Frank moved to Langdon, retiring from farming in 1985.
Frank is survived by his children: Susan (David) Wolff of Wishek, ND and Tim (Linda) Slama of St. George, UT and granddaughters Jazmine and Wittni Slama of St. George, and sisters-in-law Gladys (Harlan) Hanson of Milton, Clarice Ring and Helen Holo both of Langdon, Ruth Koehn of Larimore, and Tecla Hjelmstad of Casper, WY. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Myrtle, brother & sister-in-law Clifford & Patricia, brothers-in-law Morris Holo, William Ring, Al Hjelmstad, and William Koehn and a nephew Morey Koehn.
SERVICES Saturday August 18, 2007 at 10:30 am at the Brooks Funeral Home.
