Francis A. Thompson age 67 of Walhalla, ND died on Tuesday, December 16, 2008, at the Cavalier County Memorial Hospital, Langdon, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 19, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Boniface Catholic Church, Walhalla, ND. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 18th from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service at the church. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of services. Burial in the Our Lady of Sacred Heart Cemetery, Olga, ND. Arrangements with Nelson-Askew Funeral Home, Walhalla, ND.
Francis was born July 20, 1941, in the Brick Mine area near Walhalla, to Russell and Lena (Kalis) Thompson. He grew up and attended school there. He worked road construction with his brother Tom, as a mechanic for Peter Koropatnicki, and as a salesman for Roy Implement and Langdon Implement. In 1982, he started farming and the construction business working with his son Lionel at Thompson and Sons Construction.
On July 24, 1962, he married Marie Dumas at Our Lady of Sacred Heart Church, Olga, ND.
He is survived by his wife, Marie, children, Lionel (Kathy) Thompson, Yvonne (Peter) Danielson, and Kelly Thompson, all of Walhalla, grandchildren, Taylor, Russell, Amanda, and Hope, mother, Lena Thompson, Walhalla, siblings, Thomas (Jean) Thompson, Aitkin, MN, Ivy (Carl) Kartes, Walhalla, Theresa Hoffarth, Langdon, ND, Valentine (Sharon) Thompson, Wyoming, MN, and Darlene (Richard) Simmons, Pembina, ND.
Preceding him in death was his father, Russell, daughter, Shelly, brother, Donald, and sister, Marguerite Thompson.
Celebrant: Rev. Fr. Thomas Krupich.
Honorary Pallbearers: All of Francis's Relatives and Friends.
Casket Bearers: Patrick Hoffarth, Chuck Kartes, Curtis LaPorte, Darryn LaPorte, Rodney Tharaldson, and Lonnie Thompson.
Music: Amy Carignan, Soloist and Bernadine Kopf, Organist.
