Francis O'Hara, 84, of Pembina, ND died Sunday, December 20, 2009, at Edgewood Vista, East Grand Forks, MN. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 22, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the Pembina Lutheran Church, Pembina, ND. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of services. Burial in the Pembina Cemetery.
Francis was born March 2, 1925, near Pembina, ND to Frank and Jane "Gertrude" (Wills) O'Hara. He grew up and attended school in the Pembina area. From 1944 to 1946, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his discharge from the service he returned to Pembina and worked for the railroad and later the Pembina County Highway Department. He also worked part time as a bartender for Dick Ellingson in Pembina. In 1987, he retired from the General Service Administration where he worked for 24 years.
He was a member of the Pembina Masonic Lodge and the Kern-Thompson Post #77, Pembina American Legion.
On December 4, 1946, he married Mabel Lovine Pohl at Hallock, MN. Mabel passed away on September 26, 1996.
Survivors include his children, Charlotte Tronset and fiancĩ, Kevin Hodny, Grand Forks, ND, Sue Johnston, Pembina, Ron (Cindy) O'Hara, Sturgis, SD, Colleen Bockenhauer, Farmington, MN, and Paula (Jim) Jackson, Indianapolis, IN; 16 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; siblings, Tom (Dariel) O'Hara, St. Cloud, MN and Mae Strieck, Emerson, Manitoba.
Also preceding him in death were his parents, and brothers, Joe, Cecil, Albert, Kenneth, Vernon, and Sid.
