Frances L. "Frankie" Schulz, 97, of Crystal, ND passed away on Monday, October 17, 2011, at the Borg Memorial Home, Mountain, ND. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 22, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at the St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Crystal, ND. Visitation will be held Friday, October 21st from 5:00 p.m. to 700 p.m. at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND.
Frankie was born July 15, 1914 in Red Lodge, Montana to Raymond and Goldie (Huffman) Baxter. She grew up in Jamestown helping her father in his grocery store which was part of their home. Frankie graduated from Jamestown High School and then went to NDSU where she met Robert Schulz. She attended NDSU for three years majoring in dietetics and then moved with her family to Oregon to work. Robert and Frankie were married in Klamath Falls, Oregon, February 18, 1939. They made their home on a farm in rural Crystal.
Some of the organizations she belonged to were the American Legion Auxiliary, Northeastern North Dakota Heritage Association, Lutheran Women Mission League, Friendly Homemakers (55+ years), Four Seasons Garden Club and Fortune Hunters Investment Club. Frankie loved to travel, garden, work at the heritage center, and spend time visiting family and friends. Some of the countries she visited were Norway, Sweden, Peru, Australia, Hawaii, China, England, Ireland, and Germany. She was known for her gladiolus and other flowers and often contributed flowers for the altar at St. John's Lutheran Church. She was famous for her luscious raspberry jam.
She is survived by her children: Diane (Jerry) Zimmerman, Elk River, MN; Tom (Laurie) Schulz, Crystal, ND; Charles (Carolyn) Schulz, Ridgefield, CT; son-in-law, Norbert Wrobel, Marine, MN; grandchildren: Jim Wrobel, Julie Fernandes, John Zimmerman, Craig Zimmerman, Keith Zimmerman, Robin Schulz, Richard Schulz, Kerrie Puglia, Ryan Schulz, Katie Schulz, Justin Schulz, Krissy Schulz, and 14 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Robert on March 12, 1985, son Otto, daughter Betty Wrobel, grandson Kent Zimmerman, three brothers and three sisters.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be sent to the Northeastern Heritage Association, Borg Memorial Home, or the Anne Carlsen Center or your favorite charity.
