Florian Wendt

Florian E. Wendt, 85, of Walhalla, ND passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2011, at his home in Desert Hot Springs, CA. with his wife at his side. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Boniface Catholic Church, Walhalla. Visitation will be held Monday, Aprils 25th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the church. Burial in the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.
Florian Emil Wendt was born November 29, 1925, at Walhalla to Frank and Thilda (Jorgenson) Wendt. He attended school in Walhalla through the 8th grade. After enlisting in the U.S. Army at the age of 18, he served overseas during World War II. Following his discharge from the service he returned to Walhalla and later worked in the logging industry in Minnesota.
He met his future bride, Eileen Brown, while she was teaching in Leroy, ND. They were married on April 7, 1951, at Walhalla. Florian was baptized into the Body of Christ in 1959. After their marriage, he made his living trucking and moving furniture, while buying the family farm from this father and uncles. He raised registered herefords, farrowing sows, worked has a mechanic for Karel Sales and Service, while continuing farming.
Any activity that involved his family, friends, and motors brought him joy. He also was an avid hunter and loved fishing at Minaki, Ontario. Eileen and Florian spent years traveling to Mexico, Texas, and Arizona. The last years have been spent between Desert Hot Springs and Walhalla.
Survivors include his wife, Eileen; children: Florenda (Harry) Holen, Walhalla; Richard "Dick" (Bobbi) Wendt and Robert Wendt, all of Williston, ND; grandchildren: Christopher Olson, Luke and Corey Holen; Stephanie (Jeremy) Bakken and Darin (Kristin) Wendt; and Aimee (Tom) Elliot; great grandchildren: Carter, CeCe, and Chaz Bakken; and Decker and Denli Wendt; Madee and Kate Elliott, sister: Thora "Dolly" Bjornstad, Grafton, ND.
Preceding him in death were his parents and sister, Romona Howell.
