Fern Burt

Fern G. Burt, 89, of Cavalier, ND passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at Altru Hosptial, Grand Forks, ND. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 2, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 1st from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Burial will be held in the Cavalier Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour before the time of services.
Fern Gloria Nelson was born July 4, 1924, in Maddock, ND to Herman and Cora (Gilbertson) Nelson. She grew up and graduated from Maddock High School and then attended NDSU. In 1945, she moved with her family to Walhalla, ND. While in Walhalla she met her husband Gerald Burt and they were married on July 16, 1950. In 1954, they moved to Cavalier, where Gerald went into business.
She was a member of the American Legion and Pembina County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and the United Lutheran Church. Fern was a wonderful and amazing wife, mother, and grandmother. Baking, cooking, sewing, and many other household hobbies were things she enjoyed doing. She took very good care of her family as a stay at home mom!
Survivors include her husband, Gerald of 63 years; children: Bruce Burt, Fargo, ND, Diane (Terry) Yokom, Kerkhoven, MN, Connie (Steve) Akers, Barnesville, MN; grandchildren, Trevis (Kelly) Burt, Katie (Jon) Chandler, Bryce Yokom, McKensie Yokom, Alyssa Cossette, Maci Cossette; great-grandchildren: Hattie Chandler, Krosby Burt; four step grandchildren; five great step grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; son, Dean Burt; and siblings: Inez (Nelson) Jackson, Oman Nelson, Dennis Nelson.
