Everette Louis was born October 27, 1912, in Fargo, ND to Louis and Olive (Provost) Bailly. He was the first of nine children. The family lived in Felton, MN until settling near Leroy, ND in 1917. He attended country school and worked on the family farm until joining the Civilian Conservation Corps, which enabled him to buy his first car, a Chevy roadster for $125. In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in World War II until the end of the war. Being a WWII veteran and a member of the American Legion was a very important part of his life.
On October 31, 1949, he married Lea Dame. They farmed and raised their four children near Leroy and were active members of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Leroy. Following retirement they moved to Walhalla, where they joined the St. Boniface Church.
Besides his love for farming, Everette was an avid ham radio operator and enjoyed bird hunting, golf, playing cards, and his grandchildren. He never stopped wanting to learn new things and had many interests, including astronomy, local and military history, and exploring the countryside in his little car. He was also active in the Knights of Columbus and served as Pembina County Commissioner and member of the County Social Service Board for several years.
He is survived by his wife, Lea; children, Richard Bailly and Michael (Debbie) Bailly, all of Walhalla, ND, Denise (Hank) DeNomme, Woodland Park, CO, Janet (Damian) Dvorak, Park River, ND; 17 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; siblings, Gordon "Happy" Bailly, Mission Hills, CA, Lucille Cranston, Mountain, ND, Marie (Vernon) Dalzell, Walhalla, ND, Frances Thompson, Coleville, CA, and Isabel (Wes) Wankel, Fort Meyer, FL.
