Ethel Hanson, 97, of Cavalier, ND passed away Friday, November 27, 2015, at Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier ND. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 30th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Burial will be held in the Hamilton Cemetery, Hamilton, ND.
Ethel Switzer was born September 17, 1918, near Hamilton, ND, the youngest of 11, to R.A. and Frances (Kerslake) Switzer. She grew up in the Hamilton area and graduated from Hamilton High School. On January 25, 1939, she married Charles Hanson at Crookston, MN. After their marriage, they lived and farmed in South Carlisle Township. In 1966, they moved to Libby, MT where they owned and operated a Dairy Queen and in 1973, returned to Cavalier. They enjoyed wintering in Mesa, AZ for several years. Ethel was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cavalier, where she enjoyed singing in the church choir and a member of the Hamilton Homemaker's Club.
Survivors include her children: Gary (Kathy) Hanson, Cavalier, ND, Neil (Joyce) Hanson, Hamilton, ND, Marlys Lupien (Michael Bender), Aurora, CO; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister-in-laws: Florence Heller and Lola Switzer; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Charles on July 6, 1996 and two grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by her siblings; Pearl, Olive, Myrtle, Edith, Harold, Frederick, George, Ruth, Ray, and Blanche.
