Erna Stegman

Erna Stegman, 94, of Warren, MN, formerly of Neche, ND, passed away Monday, September 24, 2018 at the North Valley Health Center in Warren. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 1, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Lutheran Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held for one hour before the time of the service at the church. Burial will be held at the Christ Lutheran Cemetery, Neche, ND.

Erna was born September 14, 1924 near Neche, ND, to Michael and Minnie (Schmidt) Wagner. She grew up in the Neche area and attended school at the Dupree Country School. Erna worked for a couple different farm families in the Neche area. On July 14, 1946, Erna married Erhart Stegman at the Christ Lutheran Church in Neche. They lived and farmed west of Neche on the Stegman family farm. Erna moved off the farm and into Neche in 1993. In 2017 Erna moved to North Star Assisted Living in Warren, and in 2018 moved to the North Star Manor Nursing Home.

Things she enjoyed were flowers, gardening, cooking shows, canning, baking bread, craft work, and sewing. She also enjoyed talking on the phone and writing letters to family in Germany.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Michael) Schendel, Stephen, MN; granddaughters: Beth Schendel, East Grand Forks, MN and Kate (Adam) Karsky, Langdon, ND; great-grandchildren: Chiles, Remey, and Rhett; brother, Art (Virginia) Wagner, Neche, ND; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Erhart; sisters: Elsie Schuppert and Emma Tamke.
