Elsie Kempel

Elsie Kempel, 94, of Langdon, ND, passed away Sunday May 23, 2010 at the Maple Manor Care Center of Langdon, ND.

Elsie was born September 26, 1915 in Garder Township, Walsh County to Hannes and Elin “Lina” (Magnusson) Walter. She grew up in Garder Township on the family farm.She attended school at Garder and later graduated from Park River High School in 1932. Elsie was united in marriage to Jake Kempel on October 13, 1934 at Park River, ND. They lived in the Park River area until 1942 when they moved to Wales. In 1949 they purchased the bar in Wales. They moved to Thief River Falls, MN in 1962 and to Red Lake Falls in 1964. Elsie worked at the Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls until her retirement. They moved to Langdon in 1991 and Jake passed away that same year. Elsie continued to make her home in Langdon, spending nine years at Wheatland and then at the Maple Manor Care Center. She loved to scrapbook, quilt and crochet. Elsie was a member of the St. Michael’s Catholic Church of Wales, ND.

She is survived by her children: Jim Kempel of Fargo and Marilyn Kram of Langdon, ND, grandchildren: Michael (Sherry) Kempel of Fargo, ND; Janelle (Randy) Bata of Langdon, ND; Jeffrey (Jackie) Kram of Langdon, ND; Jason (Amy) Kram of Rochester, MN; Julie (Shawn) Regner of Osnabrock, ND; Jessica (Brian) Tiegs of Grand Forks, ND, great-grandchildren: Kyle Kempel, Anna Kay Kempel, Reily Bata, Raquel Bata, Lexi Bata, Kylie Kram, Ryan Kram, Tucker Regner, Brady Regner, McKenzie Regner, Morgan Kram, Nathan Kram, Addison Kram, sister Helen Chandler of Mississippi, sisters-in-law Clara Thom of Langdon, ND and Ida Mae Kempel of Alameda, CA.

Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jake, son-in-law Percy Kram, daughter-in-law Kaye Kempel, infant grandson Kevin Kram, sisters: Vi, Josephine, Sigrid, Doris, and Lorraine.

SERVICES will be Friday, May 28, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Maple Manor Care Center of Langdon. Prayer Service and Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday night at the Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon, ND with visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m.

INTERMENT will be at St. Michael's Cemetery in Wales, ND.
