Elsie Heck, 90, of Langdon, ND, passed away Friday, December 14, 2012, at the Cavalier County Memorial Hospital of Langdon, ND.
Elsie Barbara Dietz was born September 8, 1922, to Adolph and Nellie (Lorenz) Dietz in Loma Township, Cavalier County. She lived at Loma Township and then Perry Township until 1940 when she moved to Chicago, IL. She worked in Chicago until the July of 1945 when she returned home to marry Edward Heck. Edward and Elsie were united in marriage on November 28, 1945 at St. Edwardââ¬â¢s Catholic Church of Nekoma. They purchased a tavern in Nekoma which they operated until the fall of 1948. At that time they moved to Perry Township and started farming. In 1954 they were able to purchase a farm in Perry Township and farmed until 1980. Edward passed away on April 8, 1980, and Elsie moved into Langdon. She entered Maple Manor Care Center in January of 2012. Elsie was a member of the Nekoma Community Club, the Nekoma Booster Club and St. Edwardââ¬â¢s Altar Society. Elsie enjoyed sewing, embroidery, making quilts for children and grandchildren, cooking and baking, setting puzzles, family gatherings, playing cards and was a ââ¬ÅJillââ¬Å¥ of all trades. She was one of the original recyclers, being able to take a broken or worn out item and turn it into something useful.
Elsie is survived by her children: Janette (William) Bryan of Slayton, MN, Kenneth (MaryEllen) Heck of Langdon, ND, Donald (Sonya) Heck of Langdon, ND, Linda (Donald) Stansberry of Lincoln, NE, David (Donna) Heck of Chandlier, AZ, Randy (Lisa) Heck of Leeds, ND; 19 grandchildren and step-grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; siblings: Marie Krom of Harvey, ND, Helen (Edgar) Erickson of Alliance, NE; brothers and sisters in law: Robert and Ruby Peterson of Hopkins, MN, Margaret Heck of Langdon, ND, Lucille Heck of Fargo, ND, Dorothy Heck of Chicago, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Robert Dietz, sister Florence Schmidt, granddaughter Jenny Stansberry, and brothers and sisters in law: Harry and Florence Strong, Pete and Margaret Marynik, Charlie Heck, Robert Heck, Ray Heck, Louie and Ann Wohletz, Alerd and Marie Slaybough, Alice Danielson, Julius Schmidt, and Louie Krom.
Services will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at 2:00pm at the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church of Langdon, ND with Father William McDermott officiating.
Visitation will be held for two hours before the time of the services at the church on Tuesday.
Interment will be held at St. Edwardââ¬â¢s Catholic Cemetery of Nekoma, ND.
