Elroy O. Berg, 87, of Cavalier, ND passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier, ND. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Lutheran Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 17th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Burial will be held in the Cavalier Cemetery.
Elroy O. Berg was born May 16, 1929 at Hatton, ND to Obert and Mabel (Bjerke) Berg. He grew up in the Hatton area and graduated from Hatton High School. Elroy then served in the U.S. Army as a part of the occupation troop in Japan. After his discharge from the service he attended and graduated from Mayville State College. He taught school at Finley, Amenia, Casselton, Cavalier, and Pembina, ND. While teaching he also coached basketball, football, baseball, and track. In 1968, he led the Casselton team to the ND state basketball championship. Elroy had a passion for golf and also coached boys and girls golf teams.
On June 25, 1954, he married Ellen "Ellie" Fornes at Amenia, ND. She survives him as do his children: Kevin (Dianne) Berg, Cavalier, ND, Eric Berg (Greg Thompson), Fort Worth, TX, Cory (Nancy) Berg, Pierre, SD, Jana (Don) Meyer, Riverton, WY, Tracy (Ryan) Young, Watertown, SD; grandchildren: Cody, Garth, Mali Berg; Alexia Neu, Conner and Katie Berg; Ann and Wyatt Meyer; great-granddaughter, Teagan Neu; sister, Luvonne (Don) Nelson.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
