Elmer E. Kuball, 89, of Fargo, ND and formerly of Cavalier, ND died on Monday, August 1, 2011 at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Friday, August 5th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of services.
Elmer was born June 27, 1922, at Dresden, ND to August and Edith (Domres) Kuball. He grew up and attended school at Dresden. In 1937, his family moved to Cavalier where he graduated from high school in 1939. He then attended the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton for one year. Elmer then moved to Baltimore, MD and worked for Glenn L. Martin aircraft factory. In October of 1942, he enlisted in the U.S Army Air Corp. During that time he served with the 58th Wing 444th Bomb Group 677th Squadron in the Asian Pacific Theatre. After his discharge from the service in October of 1945, he returned to Cavalier to join his father in the family Dodge dealership.
His passion for flying was evident as he was instrumental in starting the Cavalier Airport and served on and was chairman of the Cavalier Airport Commission. He was also a lifelong member of the Legion and V.F.W. and served on the city council, park board and the North Valley Homes board.
On June 14, 1947, he married Leone C. Craig at Cavalier. Elmer then owned and operated a heating, cooling, appliance, and Radio Shack Store in Cavalier. In 2002, they moved to Fargo.
Survivors include his wife, Leone; children: Jeff Kuball, Alexandria, VA, Kathy (Rick) Carik, Fargo, ND, and Colleen (Harlee) Fehr, Cavalier, ND; grandchildren: Meghan (Dan Walsh) Carik and Mike Carik all of Fargo and James (Laura) Fehr, Grand Forks, ND; and sister: Lorene (Lyle) Andrews, Bismarck, ND.
Preceding him in death were his parents and infant brother, Arthur Kuball.
