Ella K. Puppe, 100, of Cavalier, ND passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier, ND. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour before the time of services. Burial will be held in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, rural St. Thomas, ND.
Ella Katherina was born September 29, 1914, in rural Saint Thomas, ND. She was the third of seven children born to Philip and Katherina (Reihl) Heuchert. Ella spent her early childhood on a farm east of Hensel until the family moved to St. Thomas following the death of her father. In 1933, she graduated from St. Thomas High School. She then spent one year with her uncle Rev. Karl Heuchert and family at Henning, MN to help with the growing family. Ella attended Mayville State College where she obtained her elementary teaching certificate. She taught in rural schools in Lodema Township and in the rural St. Thomas area..
On October 9, 1938, Ella married Leo F. Puppe at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Saint Thomas and remained in the Hensel area where the couple farmed. In 1980, they moved to Cavalier. Leo died on July 31, 1993. During her later years Ella resided at Borg Home and Wedgewood Manor.
Ella was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and active in Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Pembina County Hospital Auxiliary, Civitas Club, Homemakers, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was taught to play piano by her sister later playing the church organ for many years. In her later years Ella also enjoyed playing piano at various functions and also at the Borg Home and Wedgwood Manor while she resided there.
Survivors include her sons: Gary, Bismarck, Wayne, Cavalier, James (Sharon), Fargo, and Larry (Holly), Hensel; grandchildren, Michael (Susan) Puppe, Kimberly (Mark) Grove, Mark Puppe, Aaron Puppe, Maria (Kevin) Biberdorf, Brian (Allison) Puppe, Megan Puppe; and ten great-grandchildren.
Ella was the last surviving of her siblings, Pauline, Margaret, John, Violet, Karl, and Ernest.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; twin children, Duane and Janice Puppe; grandson, Wade Puppe and twin great grandchildren, Aiden and Owen Puppe.
