Elizabeth Sando Greenshields, 83, formerly of Grand Forks passed away August 31, 2006 at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND.
Elizabeth Helen Kempel was born December 10, 1922 at Wales, ND to Anna (Klibowich) and Walter Kempel. She attended school in Wales until her mother became ill and she stayed home to take care of her. Elizabeth married Clarence Sando October 31, 1941. They lived in Hannah, ND where they raised three children. Clarence passed away March 23, 1979. Elizabeth continued to live in Hannah until 1982 when she moved to Wahpeton, ND. While living there she worked for Stop-N-Go for ten years and was an active member of the UMW at the Evergreen United Methodist Church. In 1992 she married William (Bill) Greenshields in Wahpeton, ND. They moved to Grand Forks, ND. After Bill passed away on August 21, 2003 Elizabeth continued to live in Grand Forks where she was involved in the VFW. Elizabeth entered the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville in February of 2006. Elizabeth enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up and had recently enjoyed visits from her great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for all her love, generosity and kindness she shared with everyone.
Surviving Elizabeth are her three children; Duane (Sherry) Sando, Shelby, NC; Gloria (Gene) Plummer, Wahpeton, ND; Linda (Gary) Kaldor, Mayville, ND, step-daughter Heather (Ted) Hommell, Pine City, MN, eight grandchildren; Daryl Sando; Angela (Tracy) Greene; Nicole (Bryan) Walker all of North Carolina; Lisa (Ken) Kurtz, Morris, MN; Tami (Joe) Hermes, Hankinson, ND; Kristen (Ken) Wiggs, Thief River Falls, MN; Dana (Dawn) Kaldor, Mayville, ND; Matt (Penny) Kaldor, Bismarck, ND, step-grandaughter Kathy (Kelly) Koffler of Pine City, MN, fourteen great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren, one sister, Clara Thom, Langdon, ND and three sisters-in-law: Joyce Sando, Minot, ND, Elsie Kempel, Langdon, ND and Ida Mae Kempel of Alameda, CA.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Clarence Sando and William Greenshields, four brothers and three sisters.
VISITATION 5 to 7pm Sunday September 3, 2006 at the Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon, ND. A Prayer Service will be held Sunday Evening at 7:00pm at the Funeral Home. Visitation will also take place for one hour before the time of the services at the church on Monday.
