Elgin Coyle

August 18, 1930 — January 31, 2013

Elgin Coyle, 82, of Langdon, ND, passed away January 31, 2013 after a 5 year battle with Alzheimer’s under the care of Hospice.

Elgin H. Coyle was born August 18, 1930 in West Hope Township to Charles and Elva (Gellatly) Coyle. He attended school at the Elkwood Township in rural Langdon, ND. Elgin entered the United States Army December 2, 1952 and was honorably discharged in October 1954. Elgin married Betty Hennager on July 23, 1956 at the Stillwell Community Church in rural Langdon, ND.

Shortly after they were married, Elgin and Betty spent a brief time in Milwaukee, WI before returning to the family farmstead in West Hope Township where Elgin farmed from 1958-1996. He drove school bus for over 20 years in the Langdon area, was a substitute mail driver for 30 years, and worked at Jack’s in Maida, ND for nearly three decades. Elgin was a very hard worker and found it hard to sit still if there was work to be done.

Elgin loved square dancing with Betty and enjoyed calling dances all over the state with his brother-in-law, Buddy. Elgin also enjoyed riding horses and going on trail rides, walking and snowmobiling. He was very active in the American Legion and was the Commander for many years. He was also a devout member of the Big Pembina Lutheran Church in rural Langdon, ND. He was a friend to everyone and will be dearly missed by those who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Betty; daughter Beth (Doug) Lundeby of Sioux Falls, SD; son Jason Coyle (Annie Johnson) of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren: Lane (Lindsay) Lundeby of Sioux Falls, SD, Dallas (Chelsea) Lundeby of Sioux Falls, SD and Kendra (Derrick) Karsky of Sioux Falls, SD; great-grandchildren: Emma Lundeby, Marlee Lundeby, Jude Lundeby, Andra Karsky and Lucille Lundeby all of Sioux Falls, SD; brothers: Howard (Ione) Coyle and Jerry (Donna) Coyle; sisters- in- law: Verda Coyle, Marge Coyle and Donna Coyle; five brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

Elgin was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Merle Coyle, Warren Coyle and Delmar Coyle; sister Ruby Gellner; brother- in- law Frank Gellner; and a grandson Grady Lundeby.

VISITATION: Monday, February 4, 2013 from 5:00 to 6:30 PM at the Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon, ND with a time of sharing starting at 6:30 PM.

SERVICE: Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the United Lutheran Church of Langdon, ND.

BURIAL: Elkwood Cemetery in West Hope Township of rural Langdon at a date later in the spring time.
