Elda M. Corbit, 84, of Grand Forks and formerly of Walhalla, ND passed away Friday, August 22, 2014, at Valley Eldercare in Grand Forks. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Pembilier Nursing Center, Wahalla. Burial will be held in the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Walhalla.
Elda Marie Hornung was born May 14, 1930 to Albert and Anna Hornung, longtime farmers in the Walhalla area. She graduated from Walhalla High School in 1948, and then attended Dakota Business College, where she studied accounting.
On August 2, 1950, Elda married James Thomas Corbit of Walhalla. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this past month; having had a long and good life together. Elda and Jim established and were the proprietors of Jim's Bottle Shop from 1970 to 1990. In 1989, they moved to Brownsville, TX where she golfed to her heart's content at the River Bend Country Club. Due to health issues, they moved to Grand Forks in 2009. She was a life-long member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Walhalla.
Elda was known for her positive attitude and her perseverance as she always met her health challenges with a brave face and courageous heart. Rest in peace our dear wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Survivors are her husband, Jim; son, Tom and Gayle, Grand Forks, and their children: Jamey (Janelle), Rachel (Shane), and Christopher, and great-grandchildren: Addilyn, Carsen, Harper, Chandler, Corey, Hope, and Dylan; son, Tony and Denise, Roseau, MN and their sons, Nick and Nate; daughter, Lizanne and Craig Tessem, Denver, CO; son, Rick and Terri, Grand Forks and their daughter, Taylor; daughter-in-law, Luz, Renton, WA, and daughter, Courtney, son, Ryan and family, Mia, Benecio, and Sophia.
Preceding her in death were her parents; son, James Tracy Corbit on June 24, 2004; granddaughter, Brianna Corbit; brother and sister-in-law, Albert Jr. and Solveig Hornung and nephew, Mark Hornung.
