Eileen Otto, 91, of Crystal, ND died Thursday, November 15, 2007, at Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier, ND where she has resided for the past two years. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 20, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at the Crystal United Methodist Church, Crystal, ND. Visitation will be held Monday, November19th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of services. Burial in the Crystal Memorial Cemetery, Crystal, ND.
Eileen Shephard was born September 29, 1916, near Crystal, ND to Herbert and Margaret (Spotswood) Shephard. She attended the Holliday Country School and graduated from Crystal High School in 1934. Eileen then attended Mayville Teachers College graduating in 1936, and taught at the Nevens and Fisher Country Schools.
On June 20, 1940, she married Fred Otto at Crystal, ND. After their marriage they farmed in the Crystal area. Fred passed away on January 22, 1988.
She attended the Crystal United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday and Bible School and was a member of the Women's Society of Christian Service. Eileen also was a Wildrose 4-H leader, was active in the Crystal Country Homemakers and a local birthday club. Some of the joys in her life were traveling with her husband and family, shopping with her children and grandchildren, and she was also an avid reader.
She is survived by her children, John (Marsha) Otto, Grove City, PA; Robert J. Otto, Crystal, ND; Barbara (Bradley) Bergem, Fergus Falls, MN; Bruce (Susan) Otto, Crystal, ND; Beth (Reuben) Viland, Valley City, ND; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; brother, Robert (Ruth) Shephard, Crystal, ND.
Eileen was also preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter, Andrea Viland, brother, Harold Shephard, and infant sister, Marjorie.
Clergy: Rev. Richard Otto and Iva Wenzel.
Casket Bearers: Andrew Bergem, Dan Bergem, David Bergem, Jason Knoll, Justin Stocke, and Paul Viland.
Honorary Pallbearers: Laura Gaydos, Karen Knoll, Sarah Lang, Jeremiah Otto, Rebecca Otto, Amanada Stocke, and Aaron Viland.
Music: Viland Brothers, Special Music; Darin Otto, Organist and Norene Shephard, Pianist.
