Edward Werner, 90, of Bathgate, ND died on Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at the Borg Memorial Home, Mountain, ND. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 31, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Monday, August 30th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the church. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of services. Burial in the Cavalier Cemetery.
Edward R. Werner was born November 27, 1919 at Neche, ND to Robert and Wanda (Kroll) Werner. He grew up in the Neche area and was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Neche. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, he returned to the area and farmed in the Bathgate area until his retirement in 1992. Ed served as Bathgate Township supervisor for 40 years and was also a member of the Lavern J. Thompson Legion Post #11 and the United Lutheran Church where he served on the church council.
On July 25, 1947, he married Alvina Budner at Neche. She passed away on November 4, 2002.
Survivors include his children, Ruth (Kermit) Rollefstad and Ronald (Gwen) Werner, all of Cavalier and Connie (Gary) Campbell, Olympia, WA; grandchildren, Lisa Rollefstad, Amy (Mike) Erickson, Shari (Wayne) Johnson, Shane (Katie) Werner, Alyse and Shaelyn Campbell; great grandchildren, Abigail and James Erickson; Tanner, Brayden, and Jasmyn Johnson; Sidney, Logan, and Aiden Werner; brothers, Lloyd Werner, Portland, OR, Ervin (Carol) Werner, Woodland, CA; sisters, Marlene Anderson, Laconner, WA, Helen McMartin, Oregon City, OR and Dorothy Pfenning, Jacksonville, OR and Renata Shelton, Borg Home, Mountain, ND.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brother in infancy, Arthur; brothers, Helmet and Alan; sister, Ruby Peil.
Clergy: Rev. Beth Peterson.
Casket Bearers: Bob Bachman, Gary Hartje, Charlie Morrison, John Morrison, Gary Paulson, and David Peil.
Military Rites: Lavern J. Thompson Post #11, Cavalier American Legion.
Music: Christine Hughes, Organist.
