Edward Hiltner, 83, of Langdon, ND passed away Tuesday June 5, 2007 at the Cavalier County Memorial Hospital.
Edward was born June 11, 1923 at Mt. Carmel to Joseph and Barbara (Thome) Hiltner. He grew up and went to school in the Mt. Carmel area. Edward helped on the family farm until 1941 when he moved to Langdon where he farmed west of town. On June 20, 1944 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and went overseas in November of 1944. He was involved in the invasion of Iwo Jima and was seriously wounded on the last day of battle. Edward was awarded a Purple Heart. After recovering from his injuries, he returned home on November 5, 1945. Edward and Joan Robeck were united in marriage on June 25, 1947 in Minneapolis, MN. They made their home, raised their family and farmed in the Langdon area. He was a member of the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church where he was active in the Knights of Columbus.
Edward is survived by his wife Joan of Langdon, children: Dennis (Linda) of Columbia, South Carolina; Daryl (Robin) of Langdon, ND; Sharon (Walt) Hollifield of Devils Lake, ND; Dale of Minot, ND; Wayne (Melissa) Hiltner of Langdon, ND; Marilyn Hiltner of Fargo, ND; Lyle (Ren Marie) Hiltner of Columbia, South Carolina; Patricia (Scott) Stewart of Langdon, ND, grandchildren: Matthew, Amy, Russell, Bobby Jo, Tangy, Rachael, Janessa, Nic, Tyler, Lucas, Grant, Max, Claire, Alex, Ian, and Elliot, brothers: Sylvester (Cozy) of Arizona and Norbert (Lila) of Langdon, ND, sisters-in-law Carmen Hiltner and Theresa Hiltner both of Langdon, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Richard Hiltner, siblings: Mary Ann, Mary Magdalen, Arthur, Joseph, John, Robert, George, Frank.
VISITATION will begin at 6pm with a 7:30pm Prayer Service at the Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon, ND
