Earl D. Thorson, 93, of Cavalier, ND, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2019 at the Lutheran Sunset Home, Grafton, ND. Memorial service will be held Friday, December 6, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church in Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held for one hour before the time of the service.
Earl was born January 15, 1926, in Buxton, ND, to Anton and Carrie (Gjestrum) Thorson. He grew up and attended school in Climax, MN. Earl worked for various area farmers and then enlisted in the U.S. Army. After his discharge, he worked for the Civil Service in San Francisco, CA. Earl returned to Climax where he worked for the Farmers Union Oil Coop. On April 15, 1950, Earl married Jean Vigness in Crookston, MN. In 1960, Earl and Jean moved to Cavalier where he managed Cenex for 36 years. After his retirement from Cenex, Earl worked for Swanson and Birchwood Motors.
Earl was a member of the American Legion for 72 years and the Northeast Managers Association. He served on the United Lutheran Church Council, and also served on the boards of Citizens State Bank, Cavalier Credit Union, Centrol of Park River, and Job Service of Grand Forks. Some of the things he enjoyed were game shows, wild life programs, and telling jokes.
Earl is survived by his wife, Jean; children: David (Barbara) Thorson, Eden Prairie, MN; and Diane (Mick) Tronson, Moorhead, MN; grandchildren: Jay (Linda) Aasmundstad, Ramsey, MN and their daughter, Skylar Aasmundstad; and brother, Oscar (Toni) Thorson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and three sisters.
