Earl H. Schuster, age 82, of Cavalier, ND died Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND. Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 30, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Lutheran Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation on Saturday, March 29th from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Visitation at the church for one hour before services. Burial in the Cavalier Cemetery
Earl was born March 21, 1926, on the family farm near Fairdale, ND to Carl and Hulda (Unke) Schuster. The family moved to a farm near Union, ND in 1928, where he attended Montrose School #4 and graduated from 8th grade on June 7, 1940. He worked as a farm hand for Harris Unke, until he entered the U.S. Army in September of 1944. While in the service he was a military policeman in the 86th Infantry Division in the Philippine Islands. Some of his duties included acting as a bridge guard directing and routing traffic, and a stockade guard which included guarding general prisoners and maintaining order within the confines. On July 7, 1946, he was honorably discharged.
He worked as a farmer, farm laborer, grain elevator employee, and hospital custodian. Family gatherings, gardening, and fishing were some of things he enjoyed.
On October 18, 1949, he married Barbara Jean Hillman at the Harold Morrison home in Cavalier. Barb died on September 20, 1996.
Survivors include his children, Sandra Diane (Richard) Maine, Fessenden, ND and Michael Earl Schuster, Scottsdale, AZ; grandchildren, Tyler Earl Maine and Trishia Jean Maine; silblings, Margaret (Clifford) Lerud, Union, ND and Larry (Shelli) Schuster, Edinburg, ND; and feline friend, Socks.
Also preceded him in death were his parents, and brothers, Melvin, Lloyd, and Lee.
Clergy: Rev. Beth Peterson.
Military Rites by the Laverne J. Thompson Post #11, Cavalier American Legion.
Music: Kim Cull, Pianist.
Casket Bearers: Virgil Lerud, Richard Maine, Tyler Maine, Kevin Schuster, Larry Schuster, and Rodney Schuster.
