Douglas S. Kemp, age 79, of Cavalier, ND, passed away Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 16, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Cavalier. A visitation was held Thursday, July 15th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND.
Douglas Stanley Kemp was born February 15, 1942 in Drayton, ND to Willis and Myrtle (Smillie) Kemp. He attended the Prattford Country School No. 98 through the eighth grade and then attended Cavalier High School where he graduated in 1960. He then attended and graduated from NDSSS, in Wahpeton. Doug returned to Pembina County and worked as a mechanic and for a farmer before retiring. Doug also owned and operated a snow blowing business for several years. He entered the North Dakota National Guard in 1964. and was discharged in 1994. During his years in the service, he was deployed during Desert Storm from 1990 to 1991 He was a member of the Laverne J. Thompson Post #11 American Legion, Cavalier and was a director on the Pembina County Historical Society. He also served on the Cavalier Fire Department. At home, he enjoyed working in his shop, and would always have a project for himself or for a member of the community.
On May 29, 1966, Douglas was married to Delores Kemnitz at Our Savior Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife, Delores; children: Susann Kemp-Ault and Stacey (Katie) Kemp, all of Grand Forks; granddaughter, Megan Ault, Vermillion, SD; siblings: Dennis (Judy) Kemp, Park River, Gayle (Don) Geiger, Bonita Springs, FL, Paul Kemp, Grand Forks, Jeff (JoEllen) Kemp, El Paso, TX, and Steve Kemp, in Indiana; aunt Carol Sparrow, Mayville; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
