Dorothy W. Smith age 87, of Walhalla, ND and formerly of Backoo, ND died on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier, ND. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 17, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at the Walhalla- Park Center Presbyterian Church, Walhalla, ND. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of services. Burial in the Hillside Cemetery, Walhalla, ND. Arrangements with Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND.
Dorothy W. Marquardt was born January 28, 1920, at Walhalla, ND to Fred and Mae (Halverson) Marquardt. She grew up and attended school near Walhalla.
On April 15, 1943, she married William Smith at Backoo, ND. After their marriage they lived and farmed in the Backoo area. In 1990, they moved into Cavalier and for the past 10 years she has resided at the Pembilier Nursing Center, Walhalla, ND.
She is survived by her children, Robert (Nadine) Smith, Cavalier, ND; Helen (Craig) DeMaster, Grand Forks, ND; Dorothy (Bernhard) Borslien, Beltrami, MN; Richard (Joyce) Smith, Columbus, NE; and Lorna Brown, Casselton, ND; many grand and great grandchildren; son-in-law, Arnold Latozke, Cavalier, ND; brother, Darle (Shellie) Marquardt, Seal Rock, OR.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband William on August 1, 1994; daughters, Betty Smaldone and Lois Latozke; three brothers and three sisters.
