Dorothy M. Dietrich

d. March 24, 2012

The remarkable life of Dorothy McMillan Dietrich ended peacefully March 24, 2012. She died with the same grace and dignity she had displayed for 96 years.
Dorothy McMillan Dietrich was born March 5, 1916, to Hugh and Rose (Middal) McMillan of Hamilton, ND. Dorothy attended the Fairport Elementary School and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1934. She attended Aaker's Business School in Grand Forks for one year and then started working at the Pembina County Court House in Cavalier until she married the love of her life, Johnie F. Dietrich of Crystal, ND on October 20, 1938. Johnie and Dorothy made their home at their farm near Crystal. They built a home in Cavalier in 1948, so the children could attend school in Cavalier. However, each summer the family enjoyed moving back to the farm for the summer months. Dorothy was a devoted wife of 66 years and was extremely devoted to her husband and family.
Her top priority in life was her unconditional love and concern for her family. Nothing made her happier than times spent visiting with her family, cooking meals for them, and sharing a meal together around Johnie and Dorothy's kitchen table. Their home was always so warm and welcoming to friends and family.
Dorothy's family always came first, but her activities included the Hensel Homemaker Club, Tongue River Homemaker Club, over 50 year member of the CR Green Rebecca Lodge, a Past Noble Grand, lifetime member of the Pembina County Hospital Auxiliary, member of the Hamilton and Cavalier Baptist Church her entire life, serving as Clerk, and a member of the Mission Circle.
Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her children: Donald (Linda) Dietrich, Crystal, Karen (Dave) Lee, Fargo, ND and Judy Dietrich, Coon Rapids, MN; grandchildren: Jason (Jackie) Dietrich, Grafton, ND, Josie (Allan) Gibson, Cavalier, Angie (Charles) Ott, Eden Prairie, MN, and Todd (Jennifer) Lee, Apple Valley, MN; and her nine great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Johnie; brothers: Don and Harry McMillan; and sisters: Jean Wedwick and Beth Munson.
Because of renovations in the Cavalier Baptist Church, the Celebration of Dorothy's life will be held Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at the Cavalier Assembly of God Church, Cavalier. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 27th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND and one hour before service at the church. Memorial gifts may be designated to the Cavalier Baptist Church Building Fund or Faith in Action. Burial in the Cavalier Cemetery.
Clergy: Rev. Steve Daggett and Rev. Tom Simmons.
