Doris Stein

June 26, 1926 — February 6, 2025

Langdon, ND

Doris Mae Stein, 98, passed away at Langdon Prairie Health on February 6th, 2025.

Doris was born June 26, 1926, in Langdon, ND, to Cecil and Caroline (Johnson) McDonald. She was the eldest of the six children. She grew up on a farm near Harvey Township and later moved to Langdon. Her mother passed away early in her life, so many of Doris’s teen and younger adult years were spent helping on the family farm and raising her younger siblings. She attended school in Langdon and graduated from high school in 1944. Shortly after graduation, she met Earl Stein, and the two were married in 1946. They made their home on a farm in Loma, ND. Together, they had three children: Kevin, Cregg, and Dawn. Doris was a devoted wife and mother. She spent countless hours helping around the farm, all while raising twin boys and their younger sister. No matter how busy she was, Doris always found the time to keep a tidy house and warm meals on the table.

Eventually in 1967, Doris and Earl moved into Langdon. Those that knew Doris are aware that she was not one to sit still. She filled her time working at the Red Owl and the Selective Service Office. Throughout the years, she also held positions at the laundromat, Regal Bottle Shop, the bakery, and the Eagles. Many that adored her got to know her from those establishments. She was working until she chose to retire at the young age of 90. Doris was one that truly believed in hard work and staying active; she even earned the title of “Employee Of The Year” at 90 years old.

Once retired, Doris had even more time to attend her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s events...rarely missing one! Being the social butterfly that she was, her daily routine consisted of spending time with her friends, meeting for coffee, and playing cards. She also enjoyed sewing, baking, and attending church. Doris embraced every day with a sense of energy and zest, evident by her infectious laugh and radiant smile. Her warm heart left a lasting impression everywhere she went. She will be greatly missed!

Doris is survived by her children: Kevin (Jan) Stein, Cregg (Lori) Stein, Dawn (Harold) Bjorgo; sisters Betty Kram & Geraldine Jeffery; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and her dear friends and neighbors at Wheatland. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Caroline; husband Earl; brother Robert; and sisters Marilyn and Donna.

A funeral service for Doris will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025, at United Lutheran Church in Langdon, ND, with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the spring at Lebanon Cemetery in Langdon.

Memorials can be directed to Wheatland Estates, Lebanon Cemetery, Presbyterian Church or Langdon Prairie Health.
