Doris Sperling

August 22, 1928 — June 17, 2013

Doris Lucille Sperling, 84, Minot and formerly of Langdon died on Monday, June 17, 2013 in a Minot hospital from an aortic aneurysm.

Doris was born on August 22, 1928 in Mona, ND to Alvin and Idella (Brudahl) Peterson. She was baptized and confirmed at United Lutheran Church in Langdon, reared and educated in Loam Township, graduated from Langdon High School in 1946 and received her standard teaching certificate from Valley City State Teacher’s College. As a young adult she taught at rural schools in Cavalier County for six years.

Doris married Vernon Sperling on October 3, 1953 in Langdon. They made their home on a farm near Dresden, ND from 1953 until 1974 when they moved to Langdon. Doris was employed as a health unit coordinator at the C.C.M. Hospital in Langdon for twenty-five years until her retirement in 1996. Doris and Vernon moved to Minot in July of 2006 for health reasons and to be nearer some of their children and grandchildren. They made their home at the Wellington Assisted Living Center for the past seven years.

Doris was a member of the United Lutheran Church in Langdon where she was a member of the church choir and WELCA. She was currently attending the Bread of Life Lutheran Church in Minot and was a member of the Sweet Adelines and a homemakers group in Langdon as well as volunteering for the Langdon Hospice organization. She especially enjoyed photography, reading and scrapbooking. Doris’ grandchildren and great grandchildren have brought her much joy and happiness. Recently, she had completed a genealogy picture album that was treasured by all of her family.

Doris’ loving family includes her husband of almost 60 years: Vernon; children: Cyndi (Melvin) Klaus of Story, WY, Colleen (Keith) Broe of Bottineau, Linda (John) Mosser of Minot, Mark (Brandi) Sperling of Collinsville, OK and Steve (Lisa) Sperling of Minot; eleven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; siblings: Marilyn Christianson of Dilworth MN and Gary (Barb) Peterson of Langdon; sister-in-law: Beverly Peterson of Walhalla and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, brother: Bob Peterson, infant brother: Seward Peterson and brother-in-law: Vernon “Bud” Christianson.

SERVICES will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at United Lutheran Church in Langdon, ND. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time.

VISITATION will be Thursday, June 20, 2013 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home of Minot with a prayer service starting at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas Family Funeral Home of Minot.


Interment will be at Lebanon Cemetery - Langdon.

Memorials are preferred to the United Lutheran Church- Langdon or to the donor’s choice.
