Doris McDonald, 96, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 3, 2012 at the Pembilier Nursing Center in Walhalla, ND.
Doris Elvina (Dahlvang) McDonald was born October 27, 1915 to Carl and Josephine (Carlson-Stokke) Dahlvang in Vang, ND. She married Stewart McDonald on November 27, 1937 and moved near and then onto the MacDonald farm in Harvey Township, Cavalier County where they lived for most of their 73 years together before Stewart passed away on October 6, 2010.
Doris was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and a wonderful homemaker. She was a fantastic cook and baker, and if you ever stopped by the farm, she made sure you came in for a cup of coffee and something good to eat. She was well-known for her homemade buns, bread and pie.
She worked at home until her children were grown, then worked part-time at the Cavalier County Memorial Hospital as a nurseââ¬â¢s aide. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Langdon for many years. She enjoyed gardening, her flowers, bowling and most of all, taking care of her family. She always had a kind word to say to everyone.
Doris is survived by two daughters: Judy (Tim) Stevens of Renton, WA and Susan (Bill) Jennings of High Springs, FL; three sons: Wayne MacDonald of Seattle, WA, Robert (Cheryl) MacDonald of Langdon and Dennis MacDonald of Langdon; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl & Josephine Dahlvang; her husband, Stewart; infant daughter, Jeanette; infant son, Michael; daughter-in-law, Virginia (Wayne) MacDonald; brother, John Dahlvang; and sisters: Clara Dahlvang, Emma (Hans) Rollness, Ella (Olaf) Green, Irene (Odin) Rollness, Belma (Edgar) Stahl, Viola (Hans) Peterson, Alice Dahlvang (died in infancy), Alice (Mudge) Cuff-(Bev) Paulson, Ruby (Lloyd) Fraiser-(Richard) Knapp, and Lenora (Ernie) Reid.
SERVICES: Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at United Methodist Church in Langdon, ND.
INTERMENT: Harvey Centre Cemetery, rural Langdon.
