Doris A. Lesher age 87 of Cavalier, ND died on Thursday, February 1, 2006, at the Borg Memorial Home, Mountain, ND. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Anthony's Catholic Church at the Pembina County Historical Site across from Icelandic State Park, rural Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 5th from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. A prayer service will be held on Monday at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Visitation at the church for one hour before services on Tuesday. Burial in the St. Brigid of Ireland Catholic Cemetery, Cavalier, ND.
Doris A. White was born June 24, 1919, at Walhalla, ND to James and Vina (Menier) White. She grew up and attended school at Walhalla. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Walhalla.
On February 7, 1937, she married Gale T. Lesher at Walhalla, ND. Following their marriage they lived in Walhalla and after World War II, moved to Cavalier, ND. In January of 1966, they moved to Phoenix, AZ until Gale passed away on March 7, 1966. Doris then returned to Cavalier.
Doris was a very devoted family person and after Gale returned home from the war as a disabled veteran, spent the next several years taking care of her family. During this time she worked at Casey's Cafĩ in Cavalier as a pastry cook and later worked as a clerk for Berdahl and Fedje Hardware, Gambles, and Roger Jaster's Furniture Store until her retirement. Her favorite pastimes were cooking, dancing, sewing, reading, and playing bingo.
She was a member of the St. Brigid's Catholic Church and Altar Society, V.F.W. Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Cavalier Senior Citizens, and Laugh A lot Homemakers Club.
She is survived by her children, Patricia (Ronald) Furstenau, Hensel, ND; Ila (Joe) Martindale, Cavalier ,ND; Gale Thomas Jr. (Margaret) Lesher, Woodbury, MN; Duane Lesher, Tucson, AZ; and Barclay Lesher, West Fargo, ND; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; siblings, Helene (Bernard) Sayers, Garden Grove, CA; Evelyn (Leonard) Nelson, Douglas, ND; and Raymond A. White, Minneapolis, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, grandson, David Ross Lesher; brothers, Lawrence, Ernest, and Leo White and sisters, Loretta Dibble and Delores Melgaard.
Celebrant: Rev. Fr. Jason Lefor.
Casket Bearers: Kelly Furstenau, Ron Furstenau, Scott Jobe, Dan Lesher, Jeremiah Lesher, and Michael Lesher.
