Donald W. Puppe, 86, of Hensel, ND passed away Sunday, June 22, 2014, at Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier, ND. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 27, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural St. Thomas, ND. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 26th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Burial will be held in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.
Donald was born July 1, 1927, to Walter and Lillian (Mann) Puppe near Hensel, ND, where he also attended school. In 1943, he moved to Seattle where he worked for Boeing Aircraft, working on building the B17 bomber. He then returned to Hensel and married Irene A Martinson on November 9, 1951, at Crystal, ND. Don owned and operated Puppe's Bar and Restaurant in Hensel, and also raised over 6000 pheasants a year. He became known as the "Pheasant King." Later he became a resident of the Borg Memorial Home in Mountain, ND and the Wedgewood Manor. Don loved the outdoors and hunting with his family.
Survivors include his children: Ken (Sherri) Puppe, Hensel, ND, Barry (Jean) Puppe, Fargo, ND, Dale (Jackie) Puppe, Hensel; grandchildren: Jesse Puppe, Jay Puppe; Arielle (Nick) Peterson, Dallas Fors, Landyn Fors, Midge Fors; great-grandchildren: Vaira and Sloan Peterson; siblings: Elaine (Richard) Studd, Cattaraugus, NY and Irene Burzak, Perrysburg, NY.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and wife, Irene on August 19, 2007.
Clergy, Rev. Bernhard Seter; Music: Marlene Boettger, Soloist and Kari Anderson, Organist; Casket Bearers: Richard Brubakken, Larry Jahnke, Gary Paulson, Jim Puppe, Greg Stennes, and Gordon Tveit.
