Donald Folson, 92, of Grafton, ND, passed away Friday, March 20, 2015, at the Unity Medical Center, Grafton, ND. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at the Grafton Lutheran Church, Grafton, ND. A gathering of friends will be held Monday, March 23 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the church. Burial will be held in the Hoople Cemetery.
Don was born on September 27, 1922, the son of Charles and Helen (Rinde) Folson. He grew up and attended school in Hoople. He was baptized and confirmed in the First Lutheran Church of Hoople. From 1944 to 1946, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his discharge from the service, he attended and graduated from NDSU in Fargo with a degree in Agricultural Economics. Returning to Hoople, he joined a family farm partnership. He was united in marriage to Muriel Behl on January 27, 1957, at Grand Forks, ND. They resided in Hoople until 2006, when they moved to Grafton.
He was a lifelong member of the American Legion and the Elks Club. Don served on the Hoople City Council and served as mayor for two years. He was Secretary of the Hoople Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years. Other organizations he belonged to were the Hoople Farmers Elevator Board, Hoople Potato Products Board, ND Farm Bureau Board, and First Lutheran Church Council.
Survivors include his wife Muriel; four daughters: Peggy (Bruce) Lundeby, Fort Collins, CO, Diane (Frank) Drake, San Diego, CA, Barb (Les) Puppe, Hensel, ND, and Lori (Eden) Palmer, Owatonna, MN; eight grandchildren: Allison (Quinn) Baker, Kaitlyn Lundeby, Emily Drake, Tristan Drake, Andrea (Zach) Jacobson, Chris (Rachelle) Puppe, Zack Palmer, and Jazz Palmer; two great granddaughters: Harper and Riley Jacobson; sister-in-law, Joy Folson, Las Vegas, NV.
Preceding him in death were his parents and brothers: Alan and Richard Folson.
