Donald Charbonneau

Donald Joseph Charbonneau, 93, of Langdon, ND, passed away Saturday, November 30, 2019, in Cape Coral, FL. He had moved there in 2016 to live with his son, Paul, and Paul’s wife, Patricia Charbonneau. Later he moved to Brookdale Senior Living Center where he passed away.

Donald was born to Ovila and Melvina (Chaput) Charbonneau on June 14, 1926, in Olga, ND, where he grew up and attended school. He worked for John and Stella Stremick on their farm before entering the United States Navy in 1944. After he was honorably discharged in 1946, he moved to Langdon, ND, where he met and married Evelyn Graveline. After Evelyn’s untimely death in 1949, Donald met Evelyn Hell. They married on January 2, 1950, in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Mt. Carmel, ND. Don and Evelyn raised their family on their farm near Mt. Carmel until moving into Langdon in 1981. Donald enjoyed reading, fishing, hunting, woodworking, and gardening. As a member of the community, he served with St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #98, and with the Eagles Aerie #3454.

Surviving Donald are his six children: Paul (Patricia) Charbonneau of Cape Coral, FL, Terry (Barbara) Charbonneau of Anchorage, AK, Sherry Ludwig of Fort Dodge, IA, Danny Charbonneau of Auburn, WA, Donna (Jim) Vondal of Cando, ND, Todd (Jeanne) Charbonneau of Colorado Springs, CO, and Honorary family members Leon (Margaret) Hiltner of Langdon, ND, and Paul Ludwig of Fort Dodge, IA. In addition, there are 21 grandchildren: Tracy (Chris), Carla (Mark), Nicole, Brian (Morgan), David, Theresa (Steve), Don, Erika (Mike), Sean, Kevin, Matthew, Christopher (Alison), Janelle (Tom), Hope (Jeff), Crystal (Evan), Brett (Ashley), Eric, Tim (Nita), Jeremy (Samantha), Michelle (Jamie), Scotty (Tracy); three Honorary grandchildren: Madeline, Alan, and Susan; 24 great-grandchildren: Rachel, Ryan, Madeline, Jacob, Preston, Kayla, Eli, Mickander, Isaac, Ethan, Aaron, Anna, Tai, Hailey, Logan, Tyler, Isiah, Christian (CJ), Savanah, Ella, Eva, Stryker, Macey, and Maddy. Also surviving Donald are siblings: Larry (Jean) Charbonneau, Theresa Malone, Ernest (Estelle), Geneva (Norman), Joann (Richard), Mary Lou, Patricia (Brian), Laurette, Francine (Orin), Geraldine, Louise (Duane), Barbara (Dave), and Roberta (Dave), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ovila and Melvina, and stepmother Marion (Carrier) Charbonneau; wife Evelyn (Hell) Charbonneau of 61 years; wife Evelyn (Graveline) Charbonneau of three years; siblings: Lorraine, Gloria, Damas, Eli, Myrtle, Elaine, Juanita, Raymond and Wayne.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
