Donald W. Bjornstad age 72 of Walhalla, ND died Friday, August 22, 2008, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at the Walhalla Lutheran Church, Walhalla, ND. Visitation on Tuesday, August 26th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the church. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of services. Burial in the Hillside Cemetery, Walhalla, ND. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Pembilier Nursing Center or the Walhalla Lutheran Memorial Fund. Arrangements with Nelson-Askew Funeral Home, Walhalla, ND.
Donald Wayne Bjornstad was born June 8, 1936, in the Homen community of Cavalier County to Martin and Lydia (Amundson) Bjornstad. He grew up there and graduated from Walhalla High School in 1954. Donnie also served in the National Guard. He hauled gravel and then farmed in the Walhalla area.
He was active in his church and community serving on various boards. Donnie enjoyed farming, storytelling, music, and was a member of a barber shop quartet.
On July 18, 1959, he married Eunice Loraas at Fairdale, ND. She survives as do his children, Rodney Bjornstad, Fargo, ND, Paul Bjornstad and Tom (Teresa) Bjornstad, all of Walhalla, ND, Jodi (Nate) Houge, St. Paul, MN; grandchildren, Alex, Andrew, Anna, Martin, Jack, Lydia, Elias, Katelyn, and Elsa; siblings, Omar (Julia) Bjornstad, Langdon, ND, Muriel Rogelstad, Pelican Rapids, MN, Eileen Etterman, Moorhead, MN, Ardell Bjornstad, Walhalla, ND, Laurie (Rev. Luther) Anderson, St. George, UT, Judy (Gerald) Halvorson, Fargo, ND.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
