Diane V. Schmidt

Diane V. Schmidt, 73, of Cavalier, ND, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at Valley Eldercare, Grand Forks, ND. Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 14, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. at United Lutheran Church, Cavalier. Visitation will be held Friday, December 13th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND.
Diane was born on June 3, 1940, on the family farm in Melvin Township, to Carl and Mabel (Narum) Kroke. The fourth of five children, she grew up on the family farm and attended country school until they moved to Dahlen when Diane was in seventh grade. There she completed her high school education.
On June 3, 1957, she married Russell E. Schmidt, in Dahlen. They were blessed with seven children and raised their family and farmed by Michigan and Petersburg, ND. Diane enjoyed dancing, joking, watching the Vikings and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her children: Marilyn (Roger) Behm, Cavalier, Joyce (Mark) Magnus, Northwood, ND, Evy (Eric) Olson, Bismarck, ND, Donald (Michelle Hardy) Schmidt, Underwood, ND, Russ Schmidt, Grand Forks, ND, Brian (Mary) Schmidt, Lakota, ND; grandchildren: Chris Behm (Kellie Thomas), Alexandria, MN, Holly (Casey) Bergh, East Grand Forks, MN, Matt (Laura) Magnus, Atlanta, GA, Tracy (Danny) Hefta, Galesburg, ND, Kayla (Erik) Domier, Hatton, ND, Brandon Schmidt, Northwood, Alycia Olson, Bozeman, MT, Lindsay Behm (Josh Austfjord) Fargo, ND, Katie and Morgan Olson, Bismarck, Breanne and Jase Schmidt, Lakota; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Clair Kroke, Fargo; sister, Barbara (Dennis) Burud, Bottineau, ND She is also survived by Russell Schmidt; special friend, Albert "Buddy" Dumas; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; son, Robert, and brothers Dennis and Allen.
