Diane Hennager

January 23, 1950 — January 9, 2015

Diane Kay Hennager, 64, formerly of Langdon, ND passed away peacefully on January 9, 2015 at the Denver Hospice Care Center in Denver, Colorado with her family by her side, after a long battle with cancer.

Diane K. Zarn was born on her father's birthday, January 23, 1950 at The Mercy Hospital in Langdon, North Dakota. Born the third child of four, and the first daughter of Orville and Eleanor (Hemminger) Zarn, she lived in the Hannah-Wales area. Working right beside her father in all that he did, she shared a close relationship with her parents. In 1964, the family moved to Langdon, where she attended Hannah Grade School and Langdon High School. Diane then met the love of her life, Keith Hennager in 1966, and they were married on June 22,1967 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Langdon, North Dakota.

Keith and Diane farmed together until 1968 before spending some time in the Santa Cruz area of California. In 1970, they returned to Drayton, North Dakota where she worked as a nurse's aide at the Drayton Hospital. She went on to work at the American Crystal Sugar plant before moving back to the Hennager family farm in Langdon in 1982. They harvested wheat, alfalfa, oats and raised dairy and beef cattle, chickens, and pigs. Diane worked at her husband's side, sharing the responsibilities of farming and operating all the farm equipment. They eventually moved to Parker County, Colorado in 2002 where she was no longer able to work while battling cancer.

Square dancing was a enjoyable pastime for Diane and Keith. Proficient in crocheting, quilting and sewing, she was a member of the Quilting Guild in Aurora, Colorado. She was also a member of the Homemakers Club in Langdon, North Dakota, and was once awarded Farm Woman of the Year in Cavalier County, North Dakota. Jewelry beading, playing cards and participating in Bible Studies were also favorite activities. She was fiercely devoted to her family and loved teaching her grandkids to play cards, make crafts and crochet.

Diane found her faith in Christ in 1971 and was highly involved in church as a member of the Castle Oaks Covenant Church in Castle Rock, Colorado. Her strength was her faith and she shared that testimony with others throughout her battle with cancer. The Relay for Life was one of the ways she gave of her time for cancer awareness. She loved her neighbors, accepted everyone, and valued being frugal. Passing on her values and morals to her children and grandchildren was important to her. Diane's favorite scriptures were John 14:1-7 and 1 Corinthians 13, and she enjoyed the songs "On Eagles Wings", The Lord's Prayer" and the poem "Footprints".

She is survived by her husband Keith Hennager; and her sister Bonnie (Wayne) Mohagen of Minnesota. Also surviving are her three children: Carla (Kevin) Shelton of Mariposa, California, Lee (Sheri) Hennager of Elizabeth, Colorado and Carrie (Glen) Keller of Mandan, North Dakota; and 11 grandchildren: Alex Hennager, Breanna Hennager, Rachel Hennager, Lauren Hennager, Jason Hennager, Chelsea Shelton, Haley Shelton, Paige Shelton, Timothy Keller, Nicole Keller and Erica Keller, also 4 nephews.

A service will be held at Emmanuel Evangelical Church in Langdon, ND on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. She will be laid to rest at the Lebanon Cemetery after the service in Langdon. Services will also be held at Castle Oaks Covenant Church in Castle Rock, Colorado on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 10:00 am.
