Denis Albert Martin, the fourth of six sons, was born February 5, 1941, to Arnold Sr. and Ellice (Grierson) Martin in Detroit Lakes, MN. He attended school in Cavalier, ND, where he graduated from high school in May of 1959. Denis worked for Mayo Construction before serving in the North Dakota National Guard. Upon completion of his military training, he moved to California and was employed by DuPont.
On September 11, 1965, in Anaheim, CA, Denis married Kaye Frances Huffman of Walhalla, ND. To this union were born two children, Nadine Andress on May 21, 1966 and Scott Jay on April 8, 1968. In 1970, the family returned to North Dakota where Denis attended Valley City State College. Upon graduation, he accepted an insurance agency position with New York Life in Cavalier. In 1974, he went to work for Pan American World Airways at the Anti-Ballistic Missile (A.B.M.) site. Denis was elected Register of Deeds for Pembina County, a position which he held for 24 years.
Denis was involved in numerous community, church, and civic activities, which included past commander of the Cavalier American Legion Post, fund raiser with the Cavalier Sports Boosters, and a member of the Tongue River Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Kaye; children, Nadine A. Danielson, Grand Forks, ND and Scott J. Martin, Maple Grove, MN; grandchildren: Ashley, James, Jessica; and Chandler; great grandchildren: Jonathan, Hannah, Faith, MacKade, Abagail; brothers, E. Gene (Evelyn Kay) Martin, Grand Forks and Richard (Joyce) Martin, Boise, ID.
Preceding him in death were his parents and brothers: Arnold, Jr., Irving, and John Martin.
Denis A. Martin, 72, of Cavalier, ND passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Cavalier Evangelical Free Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 4th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service and masonic service at the church. Burial will be held in the Cavalier Cemetery.
