Clifford F. Hartje age 81 of Cavalier, ND died on Thursday, November 17, 2005, at Valley Memorial Eldercare, Grand Forks, ND. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 21st from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Visitation for one hour before the time of services. Burial in the Cavalier Cemetery.
Clifford F. Hartje was born December 4, 1923, at Glasston, ND to Henry and Ada (Papenfuss) Hartje. He grew up and attended school at Glasston, and graduated from St. Thomas High School. Cliff then attended the North Dakota Agricultural College in Fargo.
On August 3, 1944, he married Bernice Flint at Grand Forks, ND.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy. After his discharge he farmed in the Glasston and St. Thomas area until his retirement in 1990
He was a member of the Lavern J. Thompson Post #11, Cavalier American Legion where he had served as Commander. Clifford was a member of the V.FW. and was baptized and confirmed at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice, son Lynn Hartje, Cavalier, ND, daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Don Sayre, Grand Forks, ND, Kristi and Mike Morrison, Hallock, MN, Karen and Curtis Morrison, Neche, ND, grandchildren, Guy, Greg, and Amanda Sayre, Paul, Brian, and Melissa Morrison, Carey, Lynae, and Dana Morrison, sisters, Myrtle Anderson, St. Thomas, ND, Irene McKechney, Lakewood, CA, Ruth Dhondt, Corona, CA, Mildred Hartje, Glasston, ND, Marlene (Donald) Murtonen, Alexandria, MN, brothers, Allen Hartje, Glasston, ND and Harris (Betty) Hartje, Lake Havasu City, AZ, sisters-in-law, Lila Flint and Irene Thorwaldson, both of Cavalier, ND, brother-in-law, Robert Schroepser, Antigo, WI.
Clifford was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Louise Dusterhoft, Dorothy Busch, Violet Warner, and brothers, Orville, Loren, Russell, and Henry Jr.
