Clarinda Morin, age 95, of Walhalla, ND died on Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at the Pembilier Nursing Center in Walhalla. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 6, 2007, at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Walhalla. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. wake service on Thursday, July 5th at the church. There will also be visitation for one hour prior to service time on Friday. Burial in the St. Boniface Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Pembilier Nursing Center, 500 Delano Ave., Walhalla, ND 58282. Clarinda was born April 23, 1912, in Olga, ND to Philias and Malvina (Marcotte) Benoit. She attended school in Olga, Oakwood, ND and LaCrosse, WI. After earning a teachers certificate from Valley City State Teachers College in 1933, she taught elementary education in Freemont Township, Walhalla, and Milton.
On June 1, 1936, she married George Aime Morin of Sorel Quebec. They were the parents of three children and lived in the Walhalla and Milton communities, where George barbered and farmed with his brother, Louis. They were members of the St. Clothilde and St. Boniface parishes, they also enjoyed square dancing and card playing with friends and neighbors. Clarinda was active in church, retired teachers organizations, and community activities.
The grandchildren will remember grandma's buns, cookies, denim quilts, afghans, crocheted dishcloths, game playing, and ironing skills. Family, friends, neighbors, and bridge players will remember her reputation as a great hostess.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret (Paul) Soergel, Walhalla; son, Paul (Jane) Morin, Prescott Valley, AZ; grandchildren, Philip (Amy) Soergel, Glenwood, IA; Sarah (Matt) Cheever, Louisville, KY; Kristi (Trevor) Leiseth, West Fargo, ND; Renae (Michael) Pace, Prescott Valley, AZ; Jill Morin, Phoenix, AZ; eight great grandchildren; sister, Doranna Gratton; sister-in-law, Therese Charrier; and several nieces and nephews.
Clarinda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; son, Robert; brother, Richard; brothers-in-law, Louis Morin and Andre Gratton; and several family members from Sorel, Quebec.
Celebrants: Rev. Fr. Thomas Krupich and Deacon Jim Carpenter.
