Charles G. Platz, Sr.

Charles Platz, Sr., 79, of Milton, ND, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2017 at his daughter’s home in Fargo, ND surrounded by his family after a 14 year battle with cancer and COPD.

Charles Gary Platz, Sr. was born September 9, 1938 in Dresden Township, the village of Wales, ND to Bernard and Emily (Wimmer) Platz. He attended school in Wales, ND, graduating in 1957, and also attended the North Dakota School of Science. In June of 1958, Charles enlisted in the US Army where he served in Germany and was able to visit England, Italy, and Switzerland until being honorably discharged in 1960. During his time in the service, Charles was a medic and cared for Elvis Presley in Germany.

Charles and Leona Hoffarth were united in marriage on September 18, 1962 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Mt. Carmel. Charles worked as a pipefitter for Local 300 for 50 years. He and Leona made their home in various states including Iowa, Illinois, South Dakota, Colorado, and North Dakota. He also worked in Minnesota, Colorado, Wisconsin, Wyoming, Michigan, Texas, Nebraska, Germany and Canada- Northwest Territories.

Charles loved to cook and bake. He also enjoyed hunting, gardening, camping, and playing pinochle. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was always about his family- it was his life. Charles always had a smile on his face and rarely complained. He wanted to pass a special thank you on to his wife, Leona, for caring for him so much. Charles was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Knights of Pythias, and Local 300.

Surviving Charles are his wife, Leona, of Milton, ND; children: Victoria Klein of Fargo, ND, Charles Platz II of Horace, ND, Elizabeth Olson of Langdon; grandchildren: Amy (Erik) Balsdon of Brandon, SD, Aaron Olson (Brittanie Seitsinger) of Langdon, Amber Olson of Langdon; great-grandchildren: Tyann & Tessa and Lexi & Carter; sister Kathleen Frisk of Austin, MN; mother-in-law Anna Hoffarth; in-laws: Ted Hoffarth, Leslie (Doris) Hoffarth, Lois Hoffarth, Theresa Hoffarth; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Bernard, Archie, Eldon, Margaret, Laray Duray, Patricia Mason, Robert, and Donald.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Mt. Carmel, ND. Visitation will take place from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary and prayer service on Monday, November 6, 2017 at St. Alphonsus Parish Center in Langdon, ND. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Langdon, ND.
