Charles Koehmstedt

Charles C. "Carl" Koehmstedt, 78, of Fargo and formerly of Maida and Langdon, ND, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2014, under the loving care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Carl was born‎ July 30, 1936, at Maida, ND, to Charles S. and Katherine (Boesl) Koehmstedt. Carl began his education in rural schools and graduated from St. Alphonsus High School in 1954. He went on to further his education in Wahpeton, ND at the State School of Science. He joined the Navy in 1955 and served for two years. Carl was united in marriage to Judith Geisen in Dresden, ND in 1961. They made their home in Langdon, moved to Barnesville, MN and then to Fargo. He was employed by the US Postal Service for 30 years until his retirement in 1991. After retiring, Carl worked for Great American Insurance for 10 years. He also owned his own business, Carl's Country Marine.

Carl was active in many organizations over the years including 4-H, the Jaycees, and the Knights of Columbus. He served on the board of directors for the Eagles in Langdon, as the VFW Commander for District 8 and for the DAV in Grand Forks, the AMVETS Post 7 and was a member of Nativity Church in Fargo.

Carl is survived by his wife Judi of Fargo; children: Wade (Brita Brodin) Koehmstedt of Tualatin, OR, Michael Koehmstedt of Alaska, Beth (Clyde) Hoffner of Fargo, ND and Matthew (Pam) Koehmstedt of Tigard, OR; grandchildren: ‎Jonathan (Jandy), Sarah, David, Samuel, Emma, Owen; step-grandchildren: Jeremy (Crystal), Shera (Lance), Zac, Maranda; five great-granddaughters; and siblings: Cyrilla (Lawrence) Kartes of Langdon, Frances Walz of Minneapolis, MN, Joseph (Kristine) Koehmstedt of Langdon and Kay (Jim) Duffy of Seattle, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Joyce and son-in- law Brent Hardesty

A time of sharing will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 7:00pm at the Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon.

Services will be held on Friday, August 29, 2014, at 1:00 pm at the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church of Langdon, ND.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
