Charles T. Hamann, Jr., 91, of Loma, ND, passed away Thursday, June 10, 2010 at the Maple Manor Care Center of Langdon.
Charles was born at Loma, ND on July 21, 1918 to Charles T. Sr. and Nancy (Powers) Hamann. He attended school at Loma, ND. He farmed with his folks and attended a special school that dealt with boilers. He was working in Langdon at the school in March of 1941 when the blizzard hit. Charles and three cousins had made it in to the junction of Highway 1 and the Osnabrock Corner when they became stranded in their car for the duration of the blizzard. Charles enlisted in the U.S. Navy in November of 1943. He served overseas and was able to walk the Great Wall of China. He also endured one of the worst typhoons in history at that time. Charles was Honorably Discharged in March of 1946. He returned to Loma to help his dad on the farm.
Charles married Rosemarie Horejsi on February 7, 1949. He farmed and worked construction on the missile sites in North Dakota. In 1966 they moved to Bothell, Washington where he worked for Boeing until 1970. He was one of the first to work on the Boeing 747. Returning to North Dakota, he worked construction on the missiles and later with Security and the Fire Department at the Nekoma and Concrete Sites. He served on the Loma School Board and was supervisor for many years and on the Loma City Board. He served as Mayor until health problems prompted him to retire in 2008.
Charles is survived by his wife Rosemarie (Horejsi) Hamann of Loma, daughter-in-law Dora Lee Hamann of New Jersey, son Marcus Hamann (Fiancee Jackie) of Loma, ND, son Clayton Hamann of Lincoln, ND, grandson Brent Hamann (Nichole Bentz), great-granddaughter Rebecka Rose Hamann, grandson Daniel Hamann, sister-in-law Henrietta (Fred) Gebhart, brother-in-law Hugh Scott, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Lawrence Hamann, siblings: Avery (Tuff) Hamann, John, infant brother Joseph, Lucille Ratzlaff, Mary, Anastasia Flack, and an infant sister Dorothy.
VISITATION will begin at 5pm on Sunday, June 13, 2010 with a 7pm Rosary and Prayer Service all at the Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon, ND. Visitation will also take place for one hour before the time of the services at the church on Monday.
SERVICES will be held Monday, June 14, 2010 at 10:30am at the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church of Langdon, ND.
