Charles A. Berdahl, age 88, of Cavalier, ND passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier, ND. A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 31, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 30th from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Burial in the Cavalier Cemetery.
Charlie was born May 2, 1922, at Grafton, ND to Andrew and Florence (Blades) Berdahl. After graduation from high school in Hoople, he attended North Dakota State University until joining the US Navy in 1943. Upon leaving military service, he married June Ellingson on November 8, 1946, at Grand Forks, ND. He then went to work in the family hardware business, managing and owning stores in Hoople and Cavalier. He ultimately moved onto a successful career as an insurance agent in Cavalier, retiring in 1986.
While an avid reader, Charlie enjoyed golfing, camping, outdoor activities and could often be seen riding his bicycle to the Cavalier Senior Center.
Survivors include his wife, June; children: Anthony "Tony" (Margaret) Berdahl, Anchorage, AK and Kristin (Ronald) Matthews, Wilsonville, OR; grandchildren: Kimberly Denault; Sarah Doggett, Charles and Samuel Berdahl; Melissa Messermsmith, Andrew Killens, and Cole Feaser; eight great grandchildren; and sister, Helen Lerud, Park River, ND.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, James and Richard; sister, Ruth Froehlich; daughter, Kathy Trottier and granddaughter, Andrea Pankow.
Military Rites by the Lavern J. Thompson Post #11, Cavalier American Legion.
Music: Christine Hughes, Organist.
