Carl W. Winkler

Carl W. Winkler, 82, Cavalier, ND passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier, ND Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, October 9, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Brigid of Ireland Catholic Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 8th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service at the church.
Carl was born February 3, 1933 at Neche, ND to William and Hedwig (Stark) Winkler. He grew up in Cavalier, where he attended school. Carl served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict from 1953 to 1955. On September 28, 1956, Carl married RoseAnn McMillan at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Cavalier. He worked at Olson Motors in Cavalier for 34 years. As a musician he played in the Westerners Band with his brothers and in 1956 started playing with Lincoln Edgar and the Valley Ramblers. He also enjoyed yard work and fishing. He was a wonderful dad to his children.
He is survived by his wife, RoseAnn; children: Robert C. Winkler, Cavalier, Scott W. Winkler (Nicky Bergman), Manvel, ND, Pauline (Jeff) Salwei, Baudette, MN; grandchildren: Robert J. (Christy) and Rhea; Nicole (Mark) and Sabrina (David); Sara (Jason), Jennifer, Katie (Bryce); 13 great- grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Nordstrom, Cavalier; sisters-in-law: Carolyn and Yvonne Winker, both of Cavalier.
Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter, Charlotte Ann; grandson, Thomas Carl; brothers: Reinhold and Leonard Winkler; sister, Margaret Nordstrom.
