Carl F. (Bud) Verke, 79, of Fairdale, ND passed away from complications of Leukemia on Saturday June 14, 2008 at the Cavalier County Memorial Hospital of Langdon, ND .

Carl was born May 7, 1929 to Carl H. and Caroline (Hanson) Verke in Osnabrock Township, Cavalier County. He entered the United States Army on June 26, 1951 and served in Korea until his honorable discharge on April 20, 1953. Carl married Ella Bredeson on June 21, 1953. They farmed east of Nekoma until their retirement in 1993. He was active in the Nekoma Lutheran Church, the Nekoma Lutheran Cemetery, the Fairdale American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans and served on the township board for several years. Bud and Ella spent the past 16 winters in Alamo, TX.

He is survived by his wife Ella of Fairdale, children: Larry (Sandy) Verke of Tracy, CA; Mark (Pam) Verke of Bismarck, ND, Corey Verke of Galesburg, ND, grandchildren: Zachary of Fargo, ND, Shana of Bismarck, ND, Mara of Edinburg, ND, and Brittany of Cumming, GA. Brothers and sisters: Mrs. Marvin (Inga) Hammer of Fairdale, ND; Mrs. Bernard (Violet) DePlazes of Devils Lake, ND; Mrs. Clarence (Alida) Roppel of Fairdale; Mrs. Everette (Marion) Latulippe of Fairdale, ND, Mrs. Oliver (Selma) Jensen of Grafton, ND, sisters-in-law Shirley Verke of Fairdale, ND and Iona Verke of Lankin, ND and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sister: Bryan, Mrs. Peter (Ethel) Gerszewski, William, Lloyd, Edwin, Clayton, Gilbert, and Hartley.

VISITATION will begin at 4:00pm with a 7:00pm prayer service at the Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon, ND. Visitation will also take place for one hour before the time of the services at the church on Tuesday.

SERVICES will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at the Nekoma Lutheran Church of Nekoma, ND.

INTERMENT Nekoma Lutheran Cemetery, Nekoma, ND.
